Is Oliver Moore out for the rest of the season?

Last Sunday, in the Blackhawks 4-3 overtime loss to Dallas, Oliver Moore left the game 8:41 into the 1st period after falling feet first into the boards. The play resulted in a Sam Rinzel goal but attention quickly switched to the injured forward.

with only 18 games remaining in the 2025-2026 campaign, and with the recent call up of Nick Lardis, and the highly anticipated arrival of Anton Frondell (2025 3rd overall pick) and Sacha Boisvert (2024 18th overall pick) the focus for the Blackhawks shifts to development, and giving their younger players more ice-time. Oliver Moore is a key piece of the young core, and somebody who could greatly benefit from a more permanent role, and increased ice-time. However, we may not see Moore for the rest of the season.

On March 9th, Head Coach Jeff Blashill said Moore will miss “significant time”. No specific timeline was given. Fastforward to today (March 11th) another update on Moore has been given.

After practice today, Blashill did not have a diagnosis but he did say that the injury will not impact the start of next season. This heavily implies Moore will miss the remainder of this season. and that is a big loss for the Blackhawks.

Moore has played 51 games for the Blackhawks this season and has racked up 5 goals and 19 points. Those numbers don't jump off the page but if you have watched the Blackhawks play this year you’ll know that Moore is not a high-production scorer. His speed and tenacity on the puck are where he earns his paychecks, although that’s not to say the 21 year old won’t grow into more of a scoring role.

Oliver Moore looks to be an ideal 3rd line center for the Blackhawks going forward, behind Bedard and Nazar. But with Moore expected to miss the last 18 games, could Sacha Boisvert be given a look in that role?

The Blackhawks are back in action tomorrow night in Utah.
